Students taking all Online or Off-Campus Courses

All students, enrolling in all online or off-campus courses, reside outside of Coles County, and do not work on-campus must provide a current and accurate street address for shipment of textbooks by contacting Textbook Rental Service via email at textbks@eiu.edu

EIU pays the shipping cost to mail textbooks to students taking all online courses who do not live locally in Coles County.  Students are responsible for the shipping cost to mail textbooks back to us.  You must provide a street address as UPS will not deliver to a P.O. Box.  Please include your name and E-number in your email along with your full street address including city/town, state, and zip code.  Unfortunately, our office cannot go by the address in PAWS as sometimes the address is incorrect, students are not always at that address, or students may want textbooks mailed to another address due to problems with receiving deliveries at their home address.

Textbooks will not be mailed out until the student has provided our office with their address each semester.  If you reside locally in Coles County, work on-campus, or become enrolled in any on-campus course you will need to pick up your textbooks.  If something changes and you do not want any textbooks mailed to you, please contact us as soon as possible.

Please note:  Students who are enrolled in any on-campus courses (sections 001-599), who live locally in Coles County, or work on-campus remain responsible for picking up their textbooks at Textbook Rental Service.

Check-Out/Check-In Procedures
Make sure to check out our check-out/check-in procedures page to see the process for picking up/returning textbooks.  In order to expedite the textbook distribution/return process, we strongly encourage students to bring their Panther Card ID (if they have one) or E-number and a copy of their textbook pick up information/current textbook listing from PAWS.
Drop/Withdrawal Procedures

If you drop or withdraw from an on-campus course (sections 001-599), you must return or postmark all associated textbooks within two business days of dropping/withdrawing the course to avoid charges.

If you drop or withdraw from an online or off-campus course (sections 600 and above), you must return or postmark all associated textbooks within five business days of dropping/withdrawing the course to avoid charges.

For dropped/withdrawn courses, a non-refundable $20 per book processing fee will be charged for the associated textbooks not returned within the designated time frame.  In addition, all textbooks not needed should be returned immediately.

**Remember to protect your textbooks!  We recommend a waterproof book bag/backpack or another type of protective method for transporting your textbooks to and from our facility.  Keep them away from food, drink, and all other potentially damaging situations, including protecting your textbooks from all weather-related conditions.  Students will be required to pay full list price, plus tax, for any textbooks that have been lost, written in, highlighted or underlined, have any visible signs of liquid damage of any type, have been subjected to unusual wear, or have RFID tags that have been removed or damaged in any way, plus any associated late fines.
