Tribute statue at EIU honors beloved stray dog from 1945

Back in 1945, a stray golden retriever mix wandered onto EIU’s quad and quickly captured the hearts of students. The dog, which was known to the community as Napoleon, became a beloved presence on campus and was adopted by the whole student body. |
