THESIS AND RESEARCH INFORMATION

If you are completing a thesis as a required component of your master's or specialist's program, please use the information below to guide you through the process.

Beginning your thesis project?

The Manual for the Master's and Specialist's Thesis provides general information and guidance on pursuing the research, production, and writing of a master's thesis. Additionally, beginning with spring semester, 2027, all theses must meet the ADA digital accessibility guidelines prior to being submitted to Booth Library's The Keep. Does your thesis involve research using human or animal subjects?

Please utilize the appropriate guidelines found at the following links:

Completed your Thesis?

Congratulations! Now it's time to deposit it to the , EIU's open-access archive of the scholarship, creative output and administrative records. (You will need your EIU NetID and password to log into The Keep.)

To deposit your thesis as part of your program's graduation requirements:

• Ensure you have read and understand the steps listed here:
• Pay the one-time fee of $25 which assists in covering the cost of processing and maintaining your digital thesis. You can pay your upload fee by clicking here: .
• Once your thesis is deposited into The Keep, the Booth Library will submit an online notice to the Graduate School's Certification Officer. The Certification Officer will then record the completion of your thesis in your degree audit, and send you an email confirmation that the requirement has been completed.
  

Who can view my thesis once it is deposited to Booth Library's The Keep?

Preserving, reproducing, and distributing thesis research is an important part of Booth Library’s responsibility to provide access to scholarship. In order to further this goal, Booth Library makes all graduate theses completed as part of a degree program at 海角社区 available for personal study, research, and other not-for-profit educational purposes. Under 17 U.S.C. § 108, the library may reproduce and distribute a copy without infringing on copyright; however, professional courtesy dictates that permission be requested from the author before doing so. 

What if my thesis includes publishable, marketable or proprietary content?

If your thesis has the potential for publication, use in a grant application, or a possible patent application, you may request your thesis be embargoed, or temporarily withheld from open access for up to two years. To place an embargo on your thesis, be sure to select the embargo period requested during the thesis deposit process.
