Subject: Testing of Emergency Notification System

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff:

At approximately 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, the University will send out a test of the Alert EIU text message system and the Emergency Notification email system. These test messages will clearly state that they are a test.

Alert EIU text messages are only sent in emergency situations that are considered to represent a serious or continuing threat to students and employees. If you are not already registered for the Alert EIU text message system, I encourage you to do so by going to the Alert EIU website at http://www.eiu.edu/alerteiu.

The Alert EIU text message system and the Emergency Notification email system are two components of the University's Campus Emergency Notification System. This system also includes the siren/public address system, a phone tree that notifies key individuals about an emergency so that they can post the information in accessible locations for public awareness, and radio and television announcements.

Sincerely,

Daniel P. Nadler, Ph.D.
Vice President for Student Affairs
