Journalism Minor

Total Hours: 18

The Journalism minor introduces students to the skills necessary to practice news writing and editing for multiple platforms. Students learn how to report breaking news and examine the role news media play in a healthy democracy. Students learn to think critically, produce creatively, process information quickly, interview thoughtfully, and write precisely.

Required Courses:

JOU 2000
Fundamentals of News Gathering.  (3 credits)
JOU 2001
Journalism and Democracy.  (3 credits)
JOU 2101
News Reporting and Writing.  (3 credits)

Electives Options:

Journalism minors need to complete 9 semester hours of journalism coursework. Students may select any JOU prefix course as an elective, except for JOU 1000G.
