Public Health: Community Health Option (B.S.)

Total Semester Hours required for the Degree: 120 semester hours
Semester Hours required for the Public Health: Community Health Option: 49

Students may earn up to 12 s.h. of course credit in the major through Credit for Prior Learning. CPL evaluates the college-level knowledge and skills an individual has gained outside of the classroom and determines if and how the knowledge and skills acquired translates to specific college-level courses. CPL awards credit for LEARNING, not just for experience or time "on the job". Students who wish to earn course credit through CPL must consult with the academic advisor for their academic program and follow the Department of Public Health and Nutrition approved process.

A grade of 'C' or better is required for all Public Health core courses counting toward Public Health and Health Administration majors. Students in these majors are permitted two attempts to earn a grade of 'C' or better in each core Public Health course. After a grade has been recorded in Public Health core courses at EIU, the Department of Public Health and Nutrition will not accept subsequent transfer of an equivalent course from another institution unless the department has given prior written approval to enroll in the specific course at the specific institution. If after a second grade has been recorded for a given core course and the student has not received a grade of 'C' or better, the student will not be allowed to continue as a Public Health or Health Administration major and shall consult with their advisor to select a different major.
