INTRODUCTION
Originally from China, pianist Yetong Tang is recognized for performances that combine clarity, expressive depth, and a thoughtful approach to a diverse repertoire. She has appeared as a soloist, chamber musician, and collaborative pianist throughout the United States, China, and Europe, and is equally active as a teacher, adjudicator, and arts administrator.
Dr. Tang currently serves as an Instructor of Piano at 海角社区. She has also taught at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music. Her teaching experience spans applied piano, class piano, piano pedagogy, music theory, and non-major music courses. In addition to her collegiate teaching, she maintains an international online studio whose students have been admitted to leading conservatories and universities throughout the United States.
Deeply committed to music education, Dr. Tang has adjudicated competitions and presented masterclasses and lectures throughout the United States and China. She serves as Associate Faculty of Piano and Piano Program Manager at the Amalfi Coast Music & Arts Festival in Italy, where she founded and directs the Piano Teaching Seminar, an intensive program devoted to pedagogy, artistic development, and teacher training. She is also Assistant to the Artistic Director of the Gijón International Piano Festival in Spain, working closely with faculty, students, and administrators in an international artistic environment.
Her competition achievements include Second Prize in the Thaviu/Isaak Piano Performance Competition, First Prize in the Ithaca College Annual Competition, First Prize in the Ohio State MTNA Piano Competition, First Prize in the 3rd Macau–Asia Pacific Piano Competition, First Prize in the 7th Hong Kong Chinese Arts Festival and Competition, and Third Prize in the 30th Smetana International Piano Competition. She has also performed in masterclasses with distinguished artists including Boris Berman, Sara Davis Buechner, Marc-André Hamelin, Paul Lewis, Robert McDonald, and others.
Dr. Tang holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance from Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music, where she studied with James Giles. She also earned a Master of Music from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Music, magna cum laude, from Ithaca College, where she studied with Dmitri Novgorodsky.
