Dr. Ben Gerkins serves as Assistant Professor of Trumpet at the 海角社区 School of Music where he teaches applied trumpet lessons, Class Instruction in Brass, and chamber music ensembles.

Dr. Gerkins has maintained an active career as a performer and educator. He makes regular appearances with professional ensembles including The Dallas Opera Orchestra, Lone Star Wind Orchestra, Heartland Festival Orchestra, and the Carmel Symphony Orchestra among others. Dr. Gerkins has garnered numerous accolades on national and international stages, including multiple finalist desginations as a soloist and chamber musician in the National Trumpet Competition and the International Trumpet Guild Conference. Dr. Gerkins has also sustained a noteworthy research presence in the trumpet community with a focus on pedagogically-informed transcriptions.

Dr. Gerkins is a graduate of Murray State University (B.M. '21) and the University of North Texas (M.M. '23, D.M.A. '26). His teachers and mentors include Dr. Eric Swisher, Dr. Raquel Samayoa, and John Holt.
