INTRODUCTION
Dr. Anne Flaherty has served as Vice President for Student Affairs at 海角社区 since 2020, leading initiatives that support student well-being, belonging, and success across campus. With more than two decades of experience in higher education, she brings a collaborative, student-first approach to everything from campus life and health services to crisis response, retention, and student advocacy.
In 2024, Dr. Flaherty received one of the field’s highest honors, the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators Pillar of the Profession Award, recognizing her outstanding leadership and lasting contributions to student affairs nationwide. The award celebrates professionals who serve as mentors, innovators, and champions for students and the staff who support them.
At EIU, Dr. Flaherty oversees a wide range of student support areas, including health and wellness, student engagement, conduct and community standards, and programs that help Panthers feel connected and cared for from day one through graduation. She is known for building strong partnerships with students, faculty, and staff to create a welcoming campus culture where every student has the resources to thrive.
Before joining EIU, Dr. Flaherty held senior leadership roles at Washington University in St. Louis, Butler University, Indiana University School of Medicine, the University of Kansas, and Park University. Across these institutions, she has led strategic planning, campus safety efforts, student support services, and initiatives that expand access and opportunity for first-generation and under-resourced students.
A lifelong Midwesterner raised in southeast Iowa, Dr. Flaherty and her husband are the proud parents of three sons. She is deeply committed to the communities she serves and to helping students make the most of their college experience both inside and outside the classroom.
Education & Training
Flaherty earned her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration with a minor in Health Policy and Management from the University of Kansas in 2011. Flaherty has also earned an M.S. in Higher Education Administration with a concentration in Student Affairs (University of Kansas) and a B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Sociology (University of Iowa).
